We Are Antifa

We are Antifa — short for anti-fascist.

That is to say we - myself and my intellectual associates - oppose fascism.

Meaning, we are against it.

Nothing more nefarious than that.

Antifa isn't a secret society or a terrorist organization.  It doesn't have leaders, headquarters, or a hierarchy.  We are a collective ethos, an ideology, a radically humanitarian worldview.  Our mantra might be "live and let live." Or "power to the people."

Don’t let the thought police get it twisted.

All they do is lie.

They lie, we die.

As someone who knows all too well how easily words can be misunderstood & misused, and at the worst possible moment... I’m here to help you help yourself.

TO OPPOSE FASCISM IS TO BE AND THEREFORE ACT AGAINST IT.  The prefix “anti-” placed before a root word means opposed to.  Anti-war means against war.  Anti-racist means against racism.  Anti-fascist means, to no one's surprise, against fascism

It isn't rocket science.

It's the English Language Arts.

By contrast, the prefix “pro-” means for something.  If you are pro-democracy you support democracy.  That is to say you believe that in a civilized society, power belongs to we the people — not to mad kings with cankles or sociopathic tech oligarchs — both of whom literally wet their shorts at the sight of your pain and suffering.  If you are pro-democracy, then you, too, are an anti-fascist.

Antifa for short.

So what is fascism?

FASCISM (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/ FASH-iz-əm) is a far-right political ideology built on authoritarian rule, ultra-nationalism, militarization, the violent suppression of dissent,  and the belief that a single leader or party should dominate society writ large while silencing opposition.  FASCISM glorifies toxic masculine power, homosocial relationships, misogyny, racism and demands loyalty... or else, regarding dissent (expressing an opposing viewpoint) as treasonous... punishable by death.

Fascists are definitely pro-death.

Yours, that is.

Conversely...

...at its philosophical core, anti-fascism is simply the belief that systems as described above should never be allowed to manifest.

Anyone who believes that ALL human beings should be autonomous — free to think, speak, act, worship, love and live their lives without being controlled by some closeted demon queen serial-killer-by-proxy is rejecting fascism.  In its most basic sense, anyone who stands against fascist ideology is ANTIFA.

That is to say we are pro-democracy and pro-universal human rights.  We believe that all human beings — regardless of race, religion, color, creed, or how they choose to identify — deserve the same dignity and protection.  To believe that someone is inherently less than you is pure ignorance.  Fundamental human rights are not meant to be cherry-picked for a favored few while the rest of us die in the streets.  I was hoping we'd finally grasped this lesson, but clearly we need a review.

Fascism thrives on human evil.

Antifa stands against evil empires.

So yes — We are Antifa.

Are you Antifa too?

The Devil Inside: Shakespeare's Medievalism

“Men should be what they seem; Or those that be not, would they might seem  none!” -- William Shakespeare Though thematically timeless and unforgettable in style and execution, the plays of William  Shakespeare aren’t entirely to his credit. But while it’s true that he drew inspiration  from previously existing tales and texts, and often modeled his plays after Roman  tragedies, there's no denying the fact that he put a decidedly secular stamp on whatever  source/structure he appropriated. Nowhere is his creative licensing more true to worldly  form than in his 1603 tragedy, Othello: The Moor of Venice . Tapping the Medieval morality  play a la Everyman and Mankind , Shakespeare drops notions of envy, jealousy, and  mercy into a 17th Century Italian Navy . Unlike the  Medieval tradition, however, Shakespeare offers no moral resolution for his characters . What he does do is put a chilling new spin on dramatic conventions...

School is Whack

“When the indigenous and neoindigenous are silenced, they tend to respond to the denial of their voices by showcasing their culture in vivid, visceral, and transgressive ways. Like the indigenous, urban youth distinguish themselves from the larger culture through their dress, their music , their creativity in nonacademic endeavors, and their artistic output. In much public discourse, the ways in which they express themselves creatively are denigrated."               - Christopher Emdin           At least when I was a barista the customer wanted what I was selling. These fiends would be lined up, wild-eyed like the living dead, waiting to be let in at the crack of dawn. But lo and behold, they'd actually thank and even tip us… cash money …for our service. As a public school teacher in America, conversely, my "customers" weren't the least bit interested in and rarely grateful for what I was peddlin' - infor...

Sex & Coffee: A Bitter Little Time Capsule of Love

“Well, it's certainly true in life that the greatest hell one can know is to be separated from the one you love.” — Joseph Campbell The Power of Myth *** Friday, June 14, 2019 My Dearest Matthew, In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since. “If you want people to like you,” he instructed me on countless occasions over the course of years, “be very interested in everything they have to say. Act like you really care about their lives.” He also advised me to pay close attention to the casual words folks utter when first you meet them. “If you pay close attention,” the old man assured me with a twinkle in his blue eye, “ people will tell you who they are and what they’re going to do. It’s subtle but they’ll tell ya. Listen.”  What seemed more abstract than obvious when first I heard it grew explicit as time wore on. Turns out, Pops was on to something. Ornery old bastard made everything about hi...
